Named after dominating Kohala Mountain, the oldest of 5 volcanos that for Hawaii island, this eclectic area contains a mix of the island's best beaches, world class accommodations, ancient jungle valleys and temples, waterfalls, and funky artist enclaves. It is the birthplace of King Kamehameha, the first ruler of unified Hawaiian Islands, and home to historical sites like the Mo'okini Heiau, Bond Homestead, and Kalahikiola Church. If you only have a weekend on the Big Island, you could easily spend it all here!
